So You Think set for World Cup tilt
So You Think has been entered in the Dubai World Cup in March in what will be his first run in 2012.
The former Australian-based runner finished second in the Prince Of Wales Stakes at Royal Ascot to the late Rewilding in what his opening run in the United Kingdom following successful campaign down under.
Although he was defeated in his debut in Britain, the Aiden O’Brien-trained gelding bounced back to win the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown when going off 4/6 favourite before getting the better of former Derby winner Workforce.
Another Group One success followed in the Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown, but then three runs in the next two months took its toll on the five-year old. Those looking at the best Ascot odds online will know he is high-class.
Connections took on the best in Europe when they ran their mount in the Prix De L’Arc De Triomphe in Paris in early October. The race was won by Danedream who broke away from the field to win by just under six lengths. So You Think did run on late on, but could not finish better than fourth.
Less than two weeks later, the two-time Cox Plate winner appeared at the new Qipco Champions Day at Ascot in the Champions Stakes. Ryan Moore was back on board that day but had to settle for second place behind Cirrus Des Aigles.
His last run of a gruelling season was in the Breeders’ Cup Classic at Churchill Downs in the United States. So You Think went off 4/1 co-favourite and came home sixth on the dirt. It was clear that the O’Brien horse was not at his best in one of the richest races in the world.
Swindon produces number of shocks
There were a number of shocks last week at Swindon, although Head Iton Hayesy came through as expected to claim victory at the event’s main race. Steve Race’s charge took control of the Swindon January Money 509er from the early stages and dominated till the end to claim victory.
It was the second eye-catching performance from the dog in a week, both times coming through for the win despite conditions going against those rail runners. The conditions didn’t put off backers, however, and he claimed victory after going into the race as the 1-2 favourite in the Greyhound betting odds, beating a strong field with a scintillating 29.77 seconds over the four-bend track.
Kelly Findlay’s class act Coolavanny Jane claimed victory at the supporting opens over 509 meters, claiming to victory from odds of 4-6, in a result that didn’t spring too many surprises. The bitch has established herself as one of the hottest properties around in only a short time, with performances at Romford catching many an eye, as well as a final win in the 480 meters at Sittingbourne.
The same can’t be said for Heather Dimmock’s Jurisdiction, who claimed the 685 meter win as a 10-1 outsider in the Online Betting Odds. The surprises didn’t stop there, though, with Chris Stringer’s 12-1 Hernandez romping home in another shock, landing his Swindon Arc trial stakes, as did Jo Burridge’s Fiddlers Green, who came home with odds of 10-1 to end the night with another leftfield result and round off a fascinating evening’s racing at the Wiltshire track.
